Website self-portrait DSC_0314Peter Ritchie is a part-time photographer with a passion for capturing landscape images.  He has had an interest in photography since childhood when he received a Kodak Instamatic camera as a Christmas gift but he has taken it much more seriously over the past 10 years which has led to the development of a part-time business concentrating on the sale of landscape images.  He was brought up in the coastal town of Donaghadee, County Down and now resides on the outskirts of Belfast.

From a young age Peter has had a keen interest in art and during his school years he spent much of his spare time engaged in oil painting and sketch drawing; he achieved a GCSE in Art & Design.  Time constraints due to work and family commitments resulted in the cessation of his oil painting but he began teaching himself photography in 2009, mainly via quality online tutorials and magazines, eagerly applying the techniques he had researched on location.  He has benefited greatly from subsequent, structured training and has sought to develop his own style as his skills have progressed.

Peter travels extensively throughout Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Scotland and also enjoys photographing in Norway.  Whether travelling specifically for landscape projects or simply at leisure, his camera is always kept close at hand.  He has published calendars for the past number of years.

Peter favours the “magic hours” of dawn and dusk for his landscape work due to the effects of light that can be captured.  He also finds the stillness and atmosphere experienced during these periods to be inspirational, particularly at dawn.
